Fascinating moment at 8.45 tonight. My neighbour called me as she was worried about banging and was scared. I thought it was our ceiling thing (a possible lizard or snake), but went to check around anyway as I know it is secure here. The Indian neighbours were pounding grain to make bread I think... Now I like Indians as neighbours in a rental, they sound really great and are always polite, but the neighbour had taken a sleeping pill and doesn't sleep in general and they are right through her bedroom wall. We were on the phone so when I assured her there was no baddie she popped out. Should she ask the property manager to intervene or go direct to the pounding neighbours? Either way, what would you say?

It depends on what time it happened.
If the other next door neighbour had taken a sleeping pill and had gone to bed and had been woken up at 8pm by the pounding. Hmm, sorry, she'd have to put up with it IMO.
However, if she's woken up after 11pm by the same noises, then I think she'd be okay to go to the Indian neighbours and ask them to not make that noise after say, 10:30pm.
Does the local Council have time limits on noises interfering with neighbours say, 11pm to 6a.m.??
If this is the first time it's happened, try and sort it out in a friendly manner with the Indian neighbours. You said they were nice enough, they probably don't realise that the sound is travelling.
If it happens again, and again and again, then talk to the Landlord.Patience is a virtue.
