    [QUOTE=Rosco;298976]What about the worse case?
    What happens if earthquakes continue?

    Can I mention here LA - Japan??? All have histories of ongoing earthquakes, you dont see these cities as desolate wastelands. Personally having lived through the quakes, I feel safer in Chch now with all the damaged and unstable buildings removed, then some other cities with unreinforced buildings.

    I agree. I was in Wellington yesterday and the number of retaining walls already failing, old buildings of unlikely strength, old chimneys... Hard to feel safe anywhere there. Safest in Christchurch is my feeling.

    Be interesting to see what comes out of the Census, but I heard on either radio or tv the other day that the population of ChCh is now greater than before the 1st quake.
    It certainly is a changing city and it will be awesome once the 'new' city is built. The best thing about ChCh at present is that there are alot of 'immigrants' coming here to live and work, not just from outside NZ but also from other parts of the SI and god forbid one or 2 'jaffas'.
    ChCh is pretty old school, it's not what you know but who you know and people don't tend to buy and sell, they stay put in their homes.
    Once the new schools get up and running and the whole merger of schools takes place the education system here will be 2nd to none.
    The only thing is lacks at present, are right turning arrows, farmers market and decent, authentic asian and ethnic cuisine. The weather is great and beats Akld hands down!
