    Default Latest Government Rip-Off

Did someone else spot this and mention it?
    Renewal of Motor Vehicle Licence

    Administration fees

From 1 October 2012 the administration fee that you will pay depends on where you choose to make your application.

    Vehicle licensing
    • If you relicense online, you will pay an administration fee of $4.11 GST inclusive ($3.57 GST exclusive)
    • If you relicense at an agent, or directly to the NZTA, you will pay an administration fee of $7.20 GST inclusive ($6.26 GST exclusive)

    Exemption from licensing
    • If you apply for an exemption online, there is no administration fee.
    • If you apply for an exemption at an agent, you will pay an administration fee of $5.50 GST inclusive ($4.78 GST exclusive)
    • If you apply for an exemption directly to the NZTA, you will pay an administration fee of $10.40 GST inclusive ($9,04 GST exclusive.
So the W'gton woodenheads force people by statute to licence vehicles
then force people to pay them to administer what they forced. Thieves
    by any other names . . .

    What's next?

    • Passports?
    • Paying Tax?
    • WoF charges?
    • Driver licence issue?
    • Rates payments processing?
    • Instant fines payments processing?

The sky's the limit when it's a statute-backed, regulatory function monopoly
with captive payers, Draconian enforcement powers and terminal groupthink.

Look out next for vehicle affordability reports, after housing and living wage and . . .

    More Tax - Plus GST.
If it's a service and hence attracts GST - then what other service provider can I change to?
To be "fair" the current one is not very "customer" friendly.

More folks mangled by the government's cash snatcher.

    NZTA Bills Crash Victim $1300
    Marty Sharpe
    19/02/2013
The mother of a teenager nearly killed in a car crash has been billed
by the New Zealand Transport Agency for the cost of closing the road
while she was cut free. The agency tried not to add further stress to
families of people killed or critically injured, and costs "would not
ordinarily be sought against the estate of a dead person", he said.

I dimly recall they went 10-6-5, didn't they? And children up to a certain
age used to travel on their parents passport. That got axed to increase
fee revenue, if I remember aright. Just wait for an 'administration fee' to
be added to your next passport renewal rort, ahhhhhhh, fee.

wrt your original post Perry, if you now want a new vehicle license label from the post office, you will now pay $5.
I used to pay by credit card on line, then instead of waiting for a week for the label to arrive in the post, would go to the post office & get a label printed on the spot. They now charge $5 for that privalege.

re passports, dont forget that you now cant travel anywhere if theres less than 6 months on your passport, thats even if you are only going away for a week !!!
so they are not even good for 5 years, its 4.5 !!!

It's austerity measures / user pays by stealth.

I think user pays is not quite the right phraseology.

The consumer is being screwed by the government
to help pay for MPs' spouses subsidised air travel,
ex-PM perks (FBTaxable in the private sector) and
heated-seat BMWs for fat-bummed MPs and their
    endless retinue of sycophants.

So do I. I wonder if I should frame it for posterity,
so that my children and grandchildren appreciate
that the way to tell if a politician is lying is to see
    if their lips are moving?
