It looks like we have got over the initial CBD requirement and would be happy living further out of town.

What suburbs are up and coming around Auckland?
Anything around the Waitakeres? I always love the look of that area. It is quite hard to judge the areas without experience. Much bigger than Chch which was so easy. (Just go West!)

I'd be looking at minimal neighbours, a little bit of capital growth (nobody wants to lose money if they have to sell...), but mainly a nicer, quieter, and GREENER.
A bit of land would be cool.

An up and coming suburb....can I mention Mangere Bridge? A lot of younger couples out there doing properties up.
