Multilevel Brothel at heart of Auckland tourist zone?
I can see why the Chow brothers might want to set up their sex shop right in the centre of town.
I can even see why the cultural (historically protected) building strangely “fell” down during renovation.
I can’t see why the council thinks it’s a good idea to mix red light activity and family/ tourist spaces.
(I’ve seen who comes off the cruse boats, and senior citizen couples aren’t going to require pole dancing.)
I see even more of a problem now that inner city apartments have increasing amounts children as visitors.
Mostly I’m curious as to why Auckland Council lead senior planner Jennifer Valentine -
considers common moral concerns to be at odds with the benefit of the city in general.
I wonder what sort of ducks you would have to line up to get a no go on this.
Other thoughts:
Foolhardy that the prostitutes collective are supporting heavy competition in their own turf.
It’s ironic that New Zealand was colonised in order to stop it turning into a sex shop for whalers.

Moral objections are irrelevent because it's a legal activity.
Objecting on those grounds alone is as repugnant as me objecting to some God-bothering organisation trying to setup a new church.

Also, I heard on the radio that Skycity is one of the objectors. WHY? The two vices go hand-in-hand. Surely they're not worried about competition?

Because they're smarter than the Council and the Prostitutes collective, that's why.
Side note, the Council could go back to first principals. This core book talks about keeping the whores away from the homes. v
The earliest surviving written work on the subject of architecture is De architectura, by the Roman architect Vitruvius in the early 1st century AD.[3] According to Vitruvius, a good building should satisfy the three principles of firmitas, utilitas, venustas,[4][5] which translate roughly as –
Durability – it should stand up robustly and remain in good condition.
Utility – it should be useful and function well for the people using it
Beauty – it should delight people and raise their spirits.

Sky City Casino has somehow fooled people into believing that its a family entertainment center?
More of a family destruction center.
A brothel next door would be perfect - the vice district of Auckland City - lets call it what it is.
-
McDuck, I fail to see the connection betwen the 3 principles and this issue.
SK - I agree - I can't see why Skycity would have a problem, unless its competition. Ask any good concierge in a Vegas hotel the right question and you'll have a hooker at your door within 10 minutes. Or so I've been told.

Didn't know that Maori were hugely into whaling.

It's a little-known fact, DazRaz, that Captain Ahab's first name was Tamati.

I wonder what line of lingerie would have been stocked had NZ been turned into a mega sized sex shop. Extra short grass skirts? Creative use of fern fronds

I think you're onto something. It certainly explains why the early Euro settlers confused the name & use of the taiaha, or taia-ahhhhh as they 1st encountered it.
