Politicians often joust with reporters and interviewers, especially those they talk with regularly.
Points scoring if you like.
What they often don't realise, as Wayne alludes to, is that the media will keep digging.
Members of the public often come forward to the media because they don't think the whole story is out there.
What can happen then, is a relatively minor item gets more airtime and goes beyond the actual issue and come down to the politicians disclosure, hypocrisy and credibility.
This is a real public telling off for a senior Minister.
I have little doubt the whole Cabinet is on notice regarding media disclosure.
Collins handled mea gulpa 'very poorly'
He said she had mislead media and others by omitting details about her trip to China.
"She had a responsibility to reveal all of the meetings that she held in Beijing, even if one of them was a ... private meeting, and she certainly should have made me aware of that.''
Mr Key said her actions had led to accusations of a perception of a conflict of interest, "and that's unacceptable''.
He made it clear to her "in no uncertain terms'' how disappointed he was in her, and said she could not repeat the mistake.
Asked whether she was on her last chance, Mr Key said: "I wouldn't want to be in her shoes if there was a repeat of it.''

Has anyone considered that Labour are looking past their sell-by date? They're an out-moded form of left-leaning party who are clinging to socialist ideals that leave many cold. They need to re-invent themselves. You can find me at: Energise Web Design

I think you're right.
Who needs a left-leaning party with socialist ideals?
Factory workers, large unions, no social welfare assistance - those days are over.
The world has moved on.
It's the bloody councils who are implementing socialist ideas that we have to sort out.
And we can't even vote them out!

was about removing a parasitic class from the worker
new socialism
is about attaching one
something hard for the modern worker to swallow
the real answer to "not enough jobs" is really controlled population growth
but that's still a bit "brave new world"
for anyone to swallow
'cept the green far, far loonie left
they'll swallow anything

'Mr Angry' pulls minister down to Earth
Key deliberately sought to counter that possibility by unceremoniously kicking down the ladder to Collins' lofty perch, from which she had been lambasting all and sundry who had the audacity to question the constitutional propriety of her behaviour and suggest she was guilty of a serious conflict of interest.
It takes a fair degree of provocation from someone or something for Key's temperament to shift from Mr Amenable to Mr Angry. But he was seething as he delivered a very blunt and very public dressing-down of his front-bench minister.Equally worrying for those who would push her barrow has been her refusal until yesterday to take a step back, draw a long breath and admit that, yes, she had made some mistakes which she now regretted and for which she apologised.
That would have instantly ended the fun Labour has been having.
Instead, Collins allowed what she described as "a 20-minute cup of tea on the way to the airport" to turn into a 10-day-long distraction from the problems Labour has been having.

Yeah, right. Just like Labour giving the NZ Post Board chairman
sinecure to Bungler Bolger; then National reciprocates and later
gives the same post to Comrade Commissar Cullen. A great mix
of cronyism, nepotism and self-serving interest. Racketeers, all.
No wonder they're off the bottom of the scale in public estimation.

shane jones gone
from labour
from politics
bit of a surprise
The Labour Party appears to have gone into shock tonight over the news that high-profile list MP Shane Jones is to quit both the party and politics before the next election.
The decision will be a big blow to Labour which loses one of its strongest performers in election year and at a crucial time when it is struggling to make headway in the polls.
He is expected to quit at the end of the month, but according to reports he has assured party leaders he will not be jumping to another party, despite rumours earlier this year that he was eyeing the future leadership of NZ First
and in granny herald
He has been in talks with Foreign Minister Murray McCully for some time about a possible role in an international fisheries management role and expected that to go through..
"I was true to myself after I lost the leadership. I'm not able to give Labour the 100 per cent that I ought to be giving. They need a team that will stay for the long term and I'm not in that space."
"The leadership has a bit to do with it, but also I'm 55 this year and I just want to go and do something else."Last edited by eri; 22-04-2014, 09:45 PM.have you defeated them?
