Tonight's One News-Colmar Brunton poll, taken a week after Cunliffe's demotion to the back benches for disloyalty, had Labour's party vote up three percentage points at 35 per cent, with the Greens up one on 13 per cent.

Eri, eri, eri. Mate, you clearly don't understand politics...

It works like this:

1) Be a relatively handsome or beautiful person.
2) Be likeable, smile a lot etc.
3) Outline some positive changes you are going to make to the people you are targeting for votes.
4) Get voted in.

Then you kind of just manage things (don't rock the boat too much there fella) until the next campaign, which isn't long whereby you start at 1 again.

I heard David Shearer being interviewed on talkback radio the other day about National's apprecticeship scheme and he must have complimented John Key and national at least 4/5 times as he spoke. He may have showed integrity but it's not a great way to raise your own profile!

Mixed poll news for Nats - and a slip of the tongue for Shearer

New polls have mixed news for National.
A One-News Colmar Brunton survey echoes a Roy Morgan poll (below), showing a dip in support for the government as National hits a seven-year low.
It gives the Labour-Green opposition enough support to form a minority government.

But a 3News Reid-Research poll has the government holding its lead as both main parties drop 2% but National remains on a robust 49%.

Both polls have bad news for John Key, who dips in the preferred Prime Minister stakes in both polls (both have Labour leader David Shearer unchanged).
