Out of control?
The people thought they wouldn't get consent so decided to do it without consent.
In the end they got consent.
Now all the wanted was a Yurt or 2 but where does it stop?
Maybe the next farm wants 5
then the next 10
Who knows.
In this case, once the proper process was used (rather than not applying and hope it will go away) they got this The Motueka Valley case, where there was deemed to be no adverse environmental impact on the farm from a limited increase in dwellings, shows a careful weighting of the issues can lead to a compromise
Seems fair to me.
Now I have a case where there is a planned rule change.
It isn't a rule yet and could be appealed between now and 20th September when the appeal window closes.
But the council apply the rule just in case.
The new rule won't allow me to build a garage more than 8m from the front of the house (side entry garage door)
I want to build is on the front boundary and the current rule would allow that as of right.
But if I want to do it now, because they have notified the rule change, I have to pay for a Resource Consent ($2095)
to see if they think it will be OK.
It isn't a rule yet! But they make the rule that a rule is a rule from the moment they think of it even though it isn't passed.
well you might say "good job"davo, however the reality is that AuditNZ is a government body so it is all of us as taxpayers that will be footing the bill unfortunately..

Well if what that part of government does, is go around and rubber stamp illegal council spending then I for one would like to see some heads roll and the department changed so that doesn't happen again.
Those who could make it happen are also Government employees.
They are well aware that the time may come when they themselves stuff up.
The last thing they would then want is a precedent that would see themselves beheaded and their own department changed.
So they will just say 'Oh dear, how sad' and do nothing.
It's a TV show, is it? If so, the Council
would have been forewarned by the TV
people, wouldn't they? Was everything
filmed by the TV crews? Everything? If
so, I can imagine how keen the Council
would've been to showcase it all. Or am
I being too cynical?
Perry, I didn't watch the video before posting so I didn't get it was the basis for a show i.e. they were filming each bit.
So this might explain a bit more why they're going to such trouble to do it.
But still, they're in that optimistic early stage where they are able to be really creative and it's all new and exciting.
Might be different when they're 8 months into it and up against yet another raft of problems. Call me cynical too, but they might not be so 'perky' then.
15 grand tipped into a bureaucratic hole and what do you get for it--nothing. no wonder housing and building costs so much/ is unaffordable for many in this country
