  • Problem for telephone landline!!

I have bought a brand new house and moved in about 10 days back. Now I found there have no landline connected to this new house. Vodafon's tachnician came and checked, finally told me there still have around 50M distance from the phone network point to my house.
    My question being:
    1) Is this the builder's duty to pay any charge for connecting the landline if there have any?
    2) Whom should I contact with? Vodafon? Citycouncil or anyone else? I really crazy for this unexpected problem.

Is there anyone have the same experience?

    Best Regards,

    Simon

There are specialist phone companies and some electricians who do this sort of work. If you cant find operators in your area ask someone like telecom, chorus , vodaphone etc to point you to them.
As for whether it is your builders problem--totally depends on what was in your contact for the house as to whether it should have been supplied or not. Was it a spec house? Or Was it built by a builder for you? What did the spec say about phones--if any thing ?

Thanks motivated! The builder is the prior owner of this house. He gave me 5 years warranty in the contract and supplied CCC certificate as well. Since I never met this problem and unexpected it before I settle, so I didn't check the telephone land at that time(Actually it's impossible to find out this problem before telecom or vodafon told me this). As a new house, before the builder get the CCC, shouldn't him finish the phone cable connecting to the house?

Are you close to the vodafone cell network? If so, just go unconnected with vodafone wireless for your landline. Mind you, woosh have a wireless broadband available which could assist. I don't think the hard wires are needed anymore.

Actually I prefer to use the fixed landline.

If it's not in the contract then technically it's not necessary to provide, but it's a fair assumption to think a phone line would be laid in one of the various trenches laid to supply services, I'd have thought. Sounds like someone dropped the ball.

jcflex did you buy the house via the standard ADLS sale and purchase agreement? i.e. the one almost everyone uses?

Have you had a read right through to see if it says anything in there about services?
                Squadly dinky do!

TLL is correct - there is no requirement to provide a phone line to the property. There is a subdivision in Hamilton that hasn't had the phone lines connected (to the subdivision) for over 2 years because the developer went broke and didn't pay Telecom (I believe). Very frustrating for the home owners but the sections have sign-off.

Vodaphone wireless is good its $40 per month for unlimited national calling (cheaper if you don't want the national calling add on) its a phone just like normal (Cordless, base plugs into the wall for power, it just has a reciever box kinda like a modem) altho you will need to use the area code for local calls to dial out. Only issue I have is it interferes with the digital TV reception (we are using a freeview box).

Yes, the contract is the standard one supplied by the agent. Only added up 5 years warranty term on it. Didnot read through it about the services. Maybe it's my fault?

you do kind of assume that a phone line is included - like power, water.

that isn't the developers fault. Depends on growth etc but you would think they could plan a bit. Ask another ISP, they are allowed to unbundle you know but they don't and just blame Chorus for their own inadequate investment.

I didn't mean the developer I ment prior to purchase. Happy on a stick now as we don't use the net much at home.
